In this image, one can see a man wearing a shirt that says "VOTER". This man represents all the voters in America. The man is holding a big box that indicates a GOP Pledge of a Mega Budget Ax inside. However, as the man tilts the box to the side, the ax that falls out of it is a lot smaller than anticipated by what is said on the box. The man is shocked at the smaller size of the actual ax. This is supported by the exclamation mark over his head. This is a depiction of the promises told to the voters by the government and then what they actually deliver.
This cartoon artist is representing the government's promises of their management of funds, spending and budgets. The cartoon depicts how the Republican Party has promised MEGA cuts to government spending (the picture on the outside of the box), and a better management of the budget. At the moment, their actions have fallen short of their promises (the small ax that was fell out). This being a shock to voters as the government fails to upkeep their promises...again. I believe that it may indeed be difficult to cut government spending since they fund many things in our country, such as the infrastructure. However, the lack of budget/spending cuts can be attributed to the reluctance of top government workers to cut their own expenses. In totality, the government is putting announcements for promises of grand proportions, only to have voters receive a more meager result.
