-Refer to Note-
In this picture, there is a man standing near a hole which is filled with paper back books. He is asking his wife for matches, insinuating, unfortunately, that he is going to burn the books. In the upper left hand corner, it says, "Because of iPad?" This means that due to the iPad now having the ability to download books, progressing into the e market commerce, there is no use for 'old fashioned' paper back books. So rather than take up space, the man would rather burn them and download books to his iPad.
In this political cartoon on the iPad, the artist uses imagery, questions, and insinuation in order to portray how paper books are now becoming old fashioned and extinct. Aside from the horrid thought of burning books, I do agree with this picture. Paper back books are slowly becoming less used as our technology advances. My kindle, for example, has over 30 books on it. Rather than going to the store, I just downloaded them and now have them stored on my kindle and computer. Borders is another fine example of just how powerful the e-commerce is becoming. It can no longer compete with online stores like Amazon and are now being forced to shut down one third of their stores nation wide. Many people who have a kindle app on their iPad and download books; one, because it's easier travel wise, and two, it's usually cheaper. Paper back books, and hard cover, can be anywhere from twelve dollars to thirty dollars and up. Would you rather pay for a book that's twenty dollars and is big and bulky, or a book for ten dollars that you can put on your phone?
